Vampire on Titus
Having already addressed my "musical tardiness" in another blawg, once again I have come across the band of the moment...late. In the span of a week I have been subjected to three separate and independent references to (apparently) everyone's favorite indie afro-pop band, as brought to you by four Ivy League white boys, Vampire Weekend. Breezy enough to make a hipster tap his foot, precious enough to score a Wes Anderson film, and fringe enough to garner a status-defining 8.8 from Pitchfork, this is probably what's coming out of all the ear buds on the gentrified strip of the Green Line.
Me personally, I kinda like what I heard. It's fun, laid back, certainly well-crafted, and at least as far as I can tell, irony free. But is Vampire Weekend the greatest thing since the previous whomever that was all that? No. Maybe I'm just an old curmudgeon, but if I'm gonna get all fanboy horny over a band it has got to be a little less twee and a lot more "fuck yeah." Know what I mean:

The Wrens and Bob are always good for the soul. Thanks.
M79 makes me think of Men At Work. He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich.
I saw them live once. A very good show, much better than what was revealed on the album.
